If you are reading this, you were like me and don't like making crafts. No matter what you did to it, it looked like the work of a 5 year old. If you're also like me, there's a part of you that wants to make something look great, but you don't know how.
Here's some thoughts I have on how I personally jumped the hurdle and became obsessed with crafting. Experienced crafters are welcome to share their thoughts in the comments section below. 1. Find your niche: I am not good at drawing but I can cut printables out and arrange them so they look appealing. I like to create things with paper rather than cloth. Find what your good at creating and a way to bring it to your home. For example, my sister does cross-stitching, and frames her creations in her home. I use printables I've designed instead. 2.What's your style: it's not relaxing or fun for me to have to try and be precise about every little detail. What I like to do is start off with an idea and then allow it to transform into what it's going to be. Sounds whimsical, but not having strict expectations of what your project will end up being tends to make crafting a fun experience for me. However, there are people who enjoy that kind of precision and structure in their work. Who are you as crafter? Allow yourself to be you.
3. Be patient: Like I said, be flexible in the final product. As a beginner, this project is for you. You're not selling it so don't try to be a perfectionist. Your skills will grow and you will find ways to make your projects look amazing. Plus you can get a bunch of amazing tips from others on Pinterest.
4. Do your research: I know for a fact I'm not the only one who has posted about how to repaint a table or how to use modge podge on canvas. A lot of what I do is based off of what I've seen others do and then add my own twist. My own perspective, if you will. Make sure you know how to do it or two things will happen: 1. Your project will take much longer to do; 2. You will make a mistake on your project. Learn from others. 5. Make it about what you need: What's the point of crafting if you can't use it? I made these adorable burlap bows a while back and still can't find a use for them. So they sit in my craft shelf, taking up space and looking depressed. After you make your craft, use it or put it somewhere you can admire it. That sense of accomplishment is great motivator to pursue future projects.
That's it. My thoughts on crafting for beginners. Below are a couple of links to some great crafts for beginners. Happy crafting!
