If you are new to these posts, as a part of my blog, I provide a printable of the current month's Visiting Teaching Message. It's great practice for me and a great way to keep with our visiting teaching assignments. If you want to stay updated on when I post these messages, subscribe to my email list above.
What an awesome message posted this month, "That They May Be One." This month's message is about how we can become like Christ and Heavenly Father. I felt this quote summarizes the entire message. For as we follow His way, by keeping our covenants and following his commandments, we will be following the path that leads us to happiness. Then we become more like Him. You can also find this printable on my Printable page. July 2017 Visiting Teaching Message

I'm super excited to show off my nursery to you all.
It's been 6 months in the making and most of the decorations were designed by yours truly! Because I owned some of the supplies I needed for this room before putting it all together, I probably spent between $25-$40 on the decorations-maybe even less. This is our first baby. My husband and I are very excited about his arrival. In fact, once I saw this nursery theme, I really wanted a boy! For some reason, none of the girl themes got me as excited to decorate the room. I first saw decor for this theme at Gordman’s and just fell in love. Then I looked on Pinterest for more ideas which lead me to come up with more of my own. Here’s a link to the Pinterest board I made if you are interested in looking at other ideas I found. I have separate blog posts for most of decoration pieces in this room (I'll put a list of them at the end of this post). In each post, I'll write a description of how it came in the making; what inspired the idea and what I did to make it reality. I've already posted some of them, and others will be coming in the near future. I'll let you know which is which when you get there. Some of the features in this room, however, will be highlighted here, so keep reading!
My Paper Craze Superhero Comic Book Printable
and Superhero Birth Info Stats
Above the banner is a Baby Info Stats I designed based off of other ones I've seen. No, my baby isn't born yet...so I totally made up those numbers. I'll share with you how accurate I was later on. I've been considering providing the printable for the stats I've made, however, I don't know how to make it editable. If you really like this look however, I could personalize it for you. Just comment below or Contact Me. The CribFor this room, I had one central idea that put it all together, and it was stars. I think Marvel/Superhero fabric is a little too tacky, and a little to expensive. So I found this crib sheet on Target and thought it would be a great tie-in to his room.
Inside his crib, Ethan has two stuffed animals: Lil' Joey and Gale the Whale. Maybe I'll make a costume of Gale one day...I'll let you know if I do. Click here for the tutorial I created for Lil' Joey's costume.
The Lamp
Inside the lamp, I printed out a template I made of stars, printed it out on red and blue paper, cut it out, and taped it to the inside of the lamp. Here is the result:
So cute!! The best part is, you don't see the stars until you turn on the lamp! Makes those late nights a little more fun.
If you would like the template for these stars, keep reading, I'll share it with you at the bottom of the page.
The Bookshelf
This was the last part of the bedroom I finished. As you've seen in other parts of the bedroom, I usually don't highlight just one superhero, but it seemed more appropriate for this part of the room. It's because of the Explore sign and the Captain American Itsy Bitsy toy.
I purchased those are different times and they happened to center around Captain America. In a sense, it all came together that way. It would've have looked weirder if the "Little Boys in Disguise" Printable had the logo of another superhero. On the plus side, Captain America is my favorite superhero. So I'm not complaining.
I just LOVE this little guy. I'm really glad my husband picked this one.
Yes, I did design the "Little Boys are Superheroes in Disguise" print. A post about that will be coming along later. The other photo is the picture we took to announce our pregnancy. I feel that your decor needs to be about you. Family is very important to me and I strongly felt I needed to include family pictures in this nursery. This way Ethan will learn family is important too. I'll also be placing family photos onto the cork board you've seen in other photos. I'm planning on replacing it with an actual family photo once he's born, but in a sense, we're all there. It's crazy to think that he's going to see that as another photo of his parents. It's weird to think of us as parents! My Favorite Part of the Room
It's my favorite because of two things:
1. This chair is VERY comfortable. I've already spent hours sitting in it. 2. On the crib next to the chair, I stuck the remote for the stereo on the dresser with a piece of velcro. That way, late at night, I don't have to get up to turn on the music that'll help him fall asleep.
I am a genius.

That's his room, it's been fun sharing it with you. I've had such a fun time designing it too. I know everything here wasn't highlighted. If you are interested in seeing what else I created for his room, check out the list below:

I promise, not every post is about Superhero nurseries. I craft based on needs for my home. Right now, I need a superhero nursery. I'll have plenty of posts about holiday decor, how I repainted my kitchen table, and much more! I’ll share with you mistakes I’ve made and how I fixed it, sites that have amazing free printables and a few of my own, and other decorating tips. As I said before, here is the template for the stars inside the lamp. Click on the title below the image to download it. Template for Stars

TIP: If you end up seeing sharpie on your final cape, you can easily rub off some of the top layer of the felt, it'll come right off.
To make the neck straps stick together, I used Velcro. Just because I have it. Maybe one day I'll either sew or glue a button onto the top strap for a more aesthetic appeal, but I don't mind how simple it looks right now. |
See, very simple. And I even gave you the shortened version. I had to do a lot of guess work and a few extra steps to get to this point. No one else had a tutorial on a non-sew stuffed-animal costume made out of felt, at least in the 5-10 minutes of research I did on Pinterest. Once I got the felt for the mask, it took about 10 minutes to finish, including the time it took to get the supplies out and then packed up later. Obviously, you outline the stencil and then cut it out. I snipped little holes on the side to tie the ribbon onto the mask so it would stay on the frog’s face (you can use the stretchy stuff too, but I used ribbon because I already had it). |
If you are new to decorating, it may seem a little daunting to find and place pieces that not only reflect you, but make your home pleasing to look at. As I’ve played around with what works and doesn’t work in decor, I’ve put together some “rules” (guidelines, really) that will make your home decor look great.
The Rule of Three
But understand, but this rule doesn’t limit you to three, it’s titled this way because it sounds cool. To be entirely accurate, it’s “The Rule of Odds.” As you can see, it doesn’t sound as good.
This is something I’ve observed whenever I look at others or my own arrangement of decorations. Typically when you arrange decor, it always looks better when there is an odd number of decorations versus an even number. Symmetry looks nice, but you know, asymmetry is eye appealing.
Fill the Wall Space, but Don’t Crowd it Out
It’s such a delicate balance. You have to make sure your wall art isn’t cluttering up the wall, but only having one tiny photo on a large wall space looks just as bad. It also needs to be spaced out, but not too far that it looks tacky.
Give your Tops Depth and Levels
When you’re decorating a table top, top of book shelf, or any other surface, you make it eye appealing. Having everything at a uniform height is boring, so make sure your pieces are different heights (this is what I mean by levels, everything is a different height). Don’t be afraid to bring some of your pieces to the front, this creates depth and more 3D look. Again, it’s eye appealing.
Make Sure it Matches
When decorating a room, you need a color scheme or theme. It brings uniformity to the room. My Mom has millions of adorable trinkets around her home, and because they all fit in this same color scheme, it looks amazing. Just this one simple change can affect how your entire home looks.

Decorations Should Reflect Who You Are
Pretty obvious, right? It’s like clothing. It reflects who you are. Pick things that show your values and what you enjoy. Have fun with it, because in the end, it’s your home.
Less Isn’t Always More, More Isn’t Always More
This is a tricky rule. Yea, it's pretty similar to a rule you saw above, but hear me out. Again, it’s all about that balance and what you prefer. I generally go for a more minimalist look, enough to complement and fill the space, but not suffocate the room. Generally, when there’s too much to look at, you end up not looking at it at all.
However, like I’ve said about my Mom and all the things she has, she makes it work. Though she has more space to fill than I do as she lives in a larger home. Make sure it has depths and levels and all fits in a theme or color scheme.
Symmetry is a Nice Flair
But having all your decor be placed symmetrically is boring. Use sparingly. It’s like an exception to a rule.
Greenery Adds Life
And it doesn’t even have to be a real plant either! For me, I actually don’t have the best of luck with real plants. I end up killing them or they bring in fruit flies into the house. I have a few fake plants placed around the house on different pieces of furniture. Maybe it’s because I like greenery, but it makes home a little more homey.

As it is one of my first designs, I give it to you freely. I took the background photo myself when I visited the LDS Salt Lake Temple. This building is so beautiful, I love visiting it as often as I can.
You can print this and place it on a frame, canvas, or even use it as the background picture on your phone.

Before we begin, this is the first post of many (probably 5). I will be sharing with you my ideas for my nursery, printables I've created, and finally do a grand reveal of my nursery. If you are interested in following me as I share with you my ideas, please subscribe at the top of the page. You'll also receive updates on other projects I've been working on and other printables I've created.
This is first of my Superhero Nursery set I completed. What I love most about this project is that it’s completely my own. I designed the printable, painted the block, podged it on. It’s a simple project, but my own “brain child”.
Up until I made this project, many of the crafts I made were ideas from other amazing people. I will be sharing the links where I found these printables. It’s only fair, because they deserve the credit.
But back to this project. I need to go back a few months for you to understand the background to the set I’ve created. It all started when my husband and I found out I was pregnant. We were so excited because this is our first. One day, I was in Gordman’s looking around for holiday decorations. It was there I found these:

And I fell in love with them. Not only is it fun, but there’s a strong moral message on them which I appreciated. From then on, I really wanted a boy. Luckily, a few months later, we found out that we were having a boy. Of course, I would have loved to have a girl, but nothing seemed to stand out to me for girl nursery themes the way this one did.
And of course, after Gordman’s, I went to the best place ever, Pinterest. I found many ideas for more printables and decorations ideas. If you are interested, here is the link to my Pinterest board, Superhero Nursery. Here you can see what I liked, didn't like, what generate the ideas I've come up with for my decor.
So, back to Pinterest. When I looked up ideas for my decor, they either weren’t exactly what I wanted, weren’t available to print, or weren’t free. But hey, I have Canva! Why don’t I just design the printables I wanted?
I would make one and then another idea would present itself and I’d design another one. And so on. This is the first I created for the room.
One thing that was lacking was the presentation of my religion in this theme. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and it is a huge part of my life. Of course, I want it to be part of my decorations. Decorations should present you and your values.
One common phrase you see in Latter-Day Saint homes is, “I am a Child of God.” It’s one of our most basic beliefs that every child learns growing up. Obviously, perfect choice for a first project.
When I looked at pins of different rooms, you’ll notice that they feature all the different superheroes and not just a single one. So that’s what you’ll see in my room (at a future time). This features Captain America.
From there, it was pretty easy; get a block, paint it red, podge the printable on the block. The block wasn’t the size I wanted, but it was the only one I could find at a price I liked. So I went ahead and painted it with a different color to make it more visually interesting and ta-da! The first craft for my baby room is done!
If you love it, I am providing this printable for free! And if you don’t love Captain America, this file comes with other options like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and others. Click the link below to download it:
